Wendell Phillips, the American abolitionist of the mid-1800, once said, "Every man meets his Waterloo at last." However, Henry Wadsworth Longfellow, the American poet of the same time period, wrote in Builders, "All are architects of Fate, working in these walls of Time; some with massive deeds and great, some with ornaments of rhyme." Deliberately shown by the contrast of these two men, destiny has been a greatly controversial topic among people. In the novel, East of Eden, Steinbeck displays many unique patterns, which indistinctly but profoundly illustrate his disbelief in destined lives. Steinbeck uses names that begin with C and A to illustrate that the destinies we seem inevitably born into are not unchangeable. Humans have the choice to overcome their nature and influence their future.

Throughout his novel, Steinbeck conspicuously names positively fitted characters with the letter "A" and negatively fitted characters with the letter "C". Before going into further detail, it is necessary to acknowledge the importance of the title, "East of Eden". With the word "Eden", Steinbeck foreshadows the reader that this book is chiefly rooted from the bible. Therefore, the relevance of the biblical characters, Cain and Abel, to the novel does not cause any surprises. Charles and Caleb Trask are nearly identical to the essence of Cain, dark and rancorous. On the other hand, Adam and Aron Trask are as affable as Abel. Steinbeck creates a conventional pattern in the characters' names the ones with A names are good-natured and the ones with C names are evil-minded. In the book, Aron is displayed as a "boy [one likes] before he speaks and [likes] more afterwards" (4). Caleb is a boy whose "growing restlessness [drives] him out at night. He [grows] tall and rangy, and always there [is] the darkness about him" (44). Similar to Caleb, Charles is shown negatively as "the sleek lazy danger of a black leopard" (1). By observing the evident relationship between the characters and their names, it is certain that John Steinbeck creates the pattern of A names being positive and the C names being negative. However, this pattern is discredited as the novel further continues into the conclusion.

Contrary to the unique pattern set at the beginning of the novel, Steinbeck unexpectedly concludes the lives of certain characters. The outcomes of the characters are absurd because they controvert the archetypal pattern of the names. In Aron's case, despite his A name, he fails to cope with the stabbing truth about his mother and decides to join the army. The unwise decision takes him to a war, then to his death. However, Caleb, despite his malevolent spirit of the C name, ends his life on a positive note. In fact, he strives to gain a great virtue, love. He once prays in his bed, "Dear Lord, let me be like Aron. Don't make me mean. I don't want to be. If you will let everybody like me, why, I'll give you anything in the world, and if I haven't got it, why, I'll go for to get it. I didn't want to be mean" (7). Steinbeck concludes the originally delightful Aron with a tragic death and the originally glum Cal with a positive struggle. Through these unexpected conclusions, a reader can learn that the novel embraces a specific message that Steinbeck has hidden.

By creating the inconsistencies between the character's qualities and the outcomes of their lives, Steinbeck illustrates the value of "Timshel". According to Lee's discovery, Timshel means neither 'Thou shalt' nor 'Thou must' but it means 'Thou mayest'. This significance gives Cain the freedom of choosing to do whatever he wants. Lee says, " 'Thou mayest' makes a man great, gives [Cain] stature with the gods, for in his weakness and his filth and his murder of his brother, [Cain] has still the great choice" (0). In the bible, Cain persists in making the best out of his sinful past, living in the land of Nod, building a family and "a city, and [naming] it after his son Enoch" (Genesis 417 NIV). Through his persistence, Cain is able to reach a redeemable, positive life. In East of Eden, Steinbeck incorporates this ability to make own decisions in all A and C characters. Therefore, it is realistic to accept Aron's tragic death and Cal's improvement in life. By defying the pattern, the characters' unpredictable outcomes show that the character's lives do not depend on their initial characteristics, but on the decisions they make throughout their lives.

Predicting the future is difficult. We usually rely on the past and the present to foretell the future. Looking into the past, we realize people have not only constructed magnificent civilizations, but also waged brutal wars. Nowadays, with the advent of weapons of mass destruction, we run the risk of human annihilation. Although it is our hope that the future will be a peaceful one, this remains to be seen.

As the famous computer programmer Alan Kay said, the best way to predict the future is to invent it. Merely hoping for a better future will not bring us one. If we are to overcome violence and achieve a peaceful world, we ought to find out a way to invent a peaceful future. To that end, I¡¯d like to introduce you a Korean dish called Bibimbap.

Bibimbap is a mixture of rice with vegetables, sliced meat, chili sauce and sesame oil. Each ingredient is cooked separately, and is mixed in a large bowl right before eating. It is popular among Koreans and non-Koreans alike. This is because each ingredient keeps its own flavor without diminishing the taste of the other ingredients. Ultimately, a perfect combination of the ingredients be tasted.

By studying how such a harmony can be created with different ingredients, we can learn a vital lesson towards achieving peace peoples in our world should preserve their distinct characteristics, as they blend with each other. We have experienced much bloodshed, because most people have not tolerated the differences of other peoples.

Cheap college papers on Recipe for Peace

To do away with such an unsavory Bibimbap, we must first see that we can coexist with our so-called enemies. The world does not have to be a boxing-ring where one must defeat the other to survive, but a Bibimbap bowl where differences can coexist in harmony. Second, this view needs to be unanimous. We must have a consensus that our coexistence is vital for world peace. Third, we must promote communication with each other, to eliminate possible discords among people and reinforce lasting peace. Only then can a perfect Bibimbap can be tasted.

So far, our Bibimbap has been of both good and bad quality. Korea is one example of how people dealt with different ingredients and struggled to harmonize these differences, both successfully and unsuccessfully.

Korea has been divided into two parts for half a century. During fifty years of separation, people were unable to contact family members and friends across the 8th parallel, not knowing whether they were alive or not. Misconceptions and hostilities deepened all the time. Reconciliation between the Koreas seemed remote, unification impossible.

The situation took a big turn following the meeting of the heads of the two countries on the 15th of June 000. The channels of communication widened, and people started to improvise a timid, yet workable rapport. People, whose minds were once veiled in hatred and distrust, started to listen to each other. Many families enjoyed short, yet hopeful reunion after almost an entire life of separation. Hope for a peaceful future suddenly flourished across the two Koreas.

Still, this world is immersed in bloodshed. People are losing their homes, properties, and their lives. Lack of communication and understanding built a wall of distrust among people and blinded them of the miseries suffered by others(and probably by themselves, too), which have led to even greater conflicts. At present, Korea is again a hot spot, with her nuclear problems. Nevertheless, Koreans remember that although the two Koreas have shown strong enmity towards each other for fifty years, the tension was greatly alleviated once mutual trust and communication were established. The Germans, after all, achieved unification in this way. We can never have hope unless we can reestablish mutual trust and communication, regardless of how difficult the challenges may be.

When making a bowl of Bibimbap, blending vegetables and meat slices alone will never produce a savory meal. We must add sesame oil and chili sauce to harmonize the ingredients. Sesame oil and chili sauce in a bowl of Bibimbap is mutual trust and communication in the world of Bibimbap. People can learn to accept other people¡¯s differences and live in harmony with them, only if they trust one another and openly communicate. If these three-different people, mutual trust, and communication-are prepared, we will be able to cook a perfect bowl of Bibimbap peace. Please note that this sample paper on Recipe for Peace is for your review only. In order to eliminate any of the plagiarism issues, it is highly recommended that you do not use it for you own writing purposes. "A Tree Grows in Brooklyn," a book by Betty Smith is a book about the journey through adolescence into adulthood, mainly in the life of a young girl named Francie Nolan. Three main themes in this book are poverty and social status, education, and mainly, perseverance through hardships. These three ideas make up the vast majority of the novel.

Poverty and social status is key to understanding this entire novel. When the book opens, Francie Nolan is 11 years of age. The narrator, Francie, and many characters in the book give their views on the neighborhood in which the Nolan's live, Williamsburg, Brooklyn. The author, who writes in third person omniscient, gives you and insight of everyone's perspective to the setting. In all their views, the neighborhood is indeed a poor neighborhood filled with poverty and many immigrants. Poverty and a low social standard do not keep Francie from achieving. Francie and her younger brother Neeley go to the garbage dump once a week, like many other poor children, and collect anything that could be of some worth and bring it to the junk man. He gives the children a few cents for aluminum, and then decides how much everything else is worth. The junk man also gives out "pinching pennies." To receive a pinching penny, you must not move or squirm when he gives you a little pinch on the check. Francie was always very good at not moving, and she always got her pinching penny. There is also Cheap Charlie's. At Cheap Charlie's, the poor children can use their few pennies and get candy and junky little prizes. All these things show poverty in the Nolans surroundings. At school, Francie is persecuted because she is not a rich girl. She has to sit in the back of most classes, because the teachers favor the rich children over the poor children. Even on top of all of this, Francie still enjoys learning, and strives to be very smart, which she is indeed.

Education is also a very important theme in this story, mostly in the case of Francie. Francie is a very smart girl. She goes to the library every single day, and is determined to read each book there, in alphabetical order, and then read them all over again, and again. As stated in the last paragraph, Francie was persecuted at her first school because she wasn't rich. Teachers were nicer to the more fortunate, yet Francie still managed to show how intelligent she was. Eventually Francie got tired of all the unfairness, and while taking a walk in a very nice neighborhood, she saw a beautiful school. She brought her father there the next day and told him she really wanted to attend school there. He said they would find and address in that neighborhood, and write a letter to the principal of Francie's present school saying they were moving there that way the school would let her attend the new school. The plan worked, even thought Katie didn't like the idea, and Francie began attending the new school. People were a lot nicer there, and Francie loved it. She began to excel, and was very happy. She made it through that hardship, and many more before and after that.

Perseverance through hardship is the main theme of this novel. There were many hardships in 6 years of Francie Nolan's life you read about in this book. Her father was an alcoholic. Francie love him very much, and he was a kind and gentle man, yet he had a drinking problem and was not a reliable source of income for the family. Katie Nolan, the mother, had the steady job and supported the family. Money was usually tight, but Francie and Neeley found many ways to manage. During Christmastime, the family could not afford a Christmas tree, and so on Christmas Eve, Francie and Neeley went down to the tree lot, and the man there throws a tree out and whoever catches it and can stay standing gets the tree for free. Francie and Neeley got the tree, and made it through that very happy. There were many instances in the novel where the Nolans didn't have much money for food, and would always get the stale bread, the tounges of meat, the crushed dessert, and things like that. The children were happy with what they could get, and they all persevered throught the hardships of their life. When Johonny dies, it is a turning point in the book for this is when Mr. McShane asks Katie to marry him. He is a successful man and will beable to support the new baby Laurie. The children comment that she will not have to worry about things like they did, but that she will not have near as much fun. This showed that through everything, Francie and Neeley did indeed have fun and loved their Life.

The 10s were times of great depression for the American people. This resulted in sweeping changes. Some people starved trying to find work, while others did all they could just to hang on a little longer. All across America, times were tough. Suffering is sometimes an inevitable fact of life and cannot be avoided. The novel, Of Mice and Men written by John Steinbeck takes place during the great depression. This novel is basically about two ranch workers George and Lennie who escaped from a farm in weed to work in a ranch in Soledad. They lead a simple life as workmen but soon find themselves in for trouble. In this novel suffering is showed through the sadness and loneliness of the characters. Several techniques such as dialogue and setting are used to portray the suffering of the characters.

Loneliness is a mans worst poverty. Without friends and companions, people begin to suffer. This is exactly what Crooks felt. Crooks is a stable buck who works at the ranch. He is also the only black . A proud and bitter man, Crooks has a cynical intelligence and a contemptuous demeanour that he uses to prevent others from excluding him because of his race. He reads a lot in his spare time which may be because he does not have anyone to talk to. Crooks isolates himself from the other workmen as he knows that he is not wanted around them. He will not be able to leave this situation because of the fact that he is black. They play cards in there, but I cant because I'm black. They say I stink. This is a clear example in the book that suggest to us that because Crooks is black, the other workmen does not want him around them. They say I stink. This sentence that Steinbeck used has a short and clear message to us readers that blacks were not wanted around the white people during that time.

In this novel, techniques such as setting is used to convey the emotion sadness. An excellent example would be when Steinbeck describes Crooks's room. In the stable bucks room, a small electric globe threw a meagre yellow light. This description gives us readers a feeling of dullness and darkness. A meagre yellow light. This particular phrase foreshadows Crookss sadness.

Loneliness changes the way a person thinks and behaves. Crooks lashes out at people and has become bitter because of the suffering he is put through by society. Well, I tell you, you all stink to me. The fact that all the workmen thinks that Crooks stink, makes him retaliate by doing the exact same thing back. You go on get outa my room. I aint wanted in the bunk-house and you aint wanted in my room. This sentence clearly suggests to us that Crooks doesnt like the other workmen and wants the same rights as they get. The black people in America were treated poorly back then and usually suffered from rejection and loneliness. Steinbeck emphasises on the matter by writing about how Crooks is treated to give us a clearly picture. He uses colloquial language used back then by the American people to give us readers clearer picture. Crooks emotions are once again displayed to us when he talks to Lennie, a fellow workman who was in his room, about having no one to relate to and communicate with. He states, Maybe u can see now. You got George. You know hes goin to come back. Spose u didnt have nobody. Spose you couldnt even go into the bunk house. A guy needs someone to talk to, someone to be near him. In a way everyone needs someone to talk to. whether its a friend, a family member, or even a pet. This is a source of comfort and wealth for the person. Crooks is lacking all these elements, which will definitely make him a very lonely man. Once again Steinbeck has used dialogue as a technique to convey this message to the readers. He uses colloquial language again to give us a better knowledge of how people communicated back then which will again enable us to have a clearer picture.

I dont think any one film is ever going to change anything. I dont think any one newspaper article ever changes anything. But over a period of years, the drip, drip, drip of a lot of gook movies, a lot of good articles...all this is very, very, very important. The effect of that drip, drip, drip the daily diet of views and ideas that adhere to and promote what is best in society, that has an effect. Not one movie, not one article, not one building, but just that fact that all of us buckle down and try to do better and beter.

The movie Schindlers List is a movie that is used to make people really think about what is right and what is wrong, specifically the Nazi treatement of the Jews. Throughout Schindlers List power scenes and images are used to capture how atrosic the treatment of the Jews really was. The movie helps people to get a view back in history and decide how they truly feel on the subject. It is Steven Speilburgs affective plot, content, imagery and film making skills that makes Schindlers List a movie that adds to constant drip, drip, drip of a viewpoint.

The plot of the movie is very affective in displaying the severe treatment that the Jews experienced from the Nazis. The movie begins with Oskar Schindler getting on the good side of Nazi officers so that he will be able to obtain Jews to work for him without a problem. After Schindler obtains the Jews to work for him the movie really begins to focus on the horrible treatment towards the Jews. A scene that really stands out and shows a moment of realization for Schindler is when the Jews are stripped from their homes in the ghettos. This is a point in the movie where for the first time Schindler begins to see the hardships that the Jewish people have to face.

The movie continues on to show many of the experiences of the Jews. After the Jews were stripped from their homes in the ghetto they were moved to the concentration camp where Ghert had control of the Jews. Spielberg is able to use Ghert to show the extreme hatred that some of the Nazis had toward Jews. With Gherts numerous random killings, Spielberg makes it evident that the Jews were being exterminated by the Nazis. The terrible treatement and the killing of the Jews really helps to build the plot of this movie.

Cheap college papers on Schindler's List 1005 words

Schindler witnesses this horrible treatment and the random killing of the Jews. This lets us the viewer get an idea of why Schindler decides to help the Jews. In the last past of the movie it focuses on Schindler trying to save Jewish lives by buying Jews to work in a factory where he is able to manipulate the Nazi soldiers to not treat the Jews poorly. For the viewer to see that Schindler begins to gain sypothy for the Jews after he witnesses their treatment is essential to the plot because this helps them to see it from a perspective of Schindler and helps them to understand his feelings, more importantly what kind of person that Schindler is. The viewer gets a much better perspective on why Schindler risks his live and spends all of his money in order to save the Jews. The use of plot by Spielberg plays an affective role throughout the movie.

Another element that can be seen throughout the movie is the use of imagery. Spielberg does a great job on showing what was happening to the Jews. The viewer can feel as if they were in the movie where terrible things were happening. Effective imagery is used when a few of the Jews were shot in the head by Nazi soldiers. The people being shot had obviously done nothing wrong. For instance, the woman who told Ghert that the fondation needed to be repoured. She was just doing her job and she was shot in the head. After she falls to the ground you can see the blood flowing out of her head onto the ground. This imagery is used multiple times throughout the movie when other Jews are shot in the head.

Imagery was continued to be used in the movie when the Jewish corpsases were being disposed of. This is seen a number of times throughout the movie. One time is when Schindler gets out of jail and ashes are coming down from the sky. The ashes were from the thousands of Jewish bodies were being burned in the incinerary. Jewish corpsases were also burried by the hundreds and there were also open burning pits where Jewish bodies were being dropped into the fire by convayor belts. The burning of the bodies was definately an effective use of imagery.

The little girl that had the red jacket was the only color used in this film and she was a source of imagery. The girl stood out from all of the other Jewish people when they were being taken from their homes in the ghettos. She wondered around innocently, not really paying attention to what was going on around her. She was afraid of what was happening so she made her way unnoticed into an apartment where she was able to hide underneath a bed. This little girl was used as imagery to symbolize innosence. The red jacket she wore made her stand out so the viewer was really able to notice her. The fact that the girl was so young and so afraid is what symbolized her true innocense. This was another way Spielberg used imagery in the movie.

Schindlers List is a movie that has a great impact on the viewers that see it. They are able to see the bad experiences that the Jewish community had to face with the Nazis. Schindlers List is an example of one of those movies that does not change peoples views, but with the drip, drip, drip of movies like this will truly begin to change peoples views.

Please note that this sample paper on Schindler's List 1005 words is for your review only. Okonkwo would never show his affection, however, believe that "To show affection was a sign of weakness". (p.5) Some of the major actions that occurred, in Okonkwo's life was the shooting of Ekwnsu, and the killing of Ikemefuna. These actions took place due to Okonkwo feeling tense and idle, he finds an excuse to beat his second wife, Ekwefi in the scared week. When she makes a derogatory comment, he shoots her with his old hunting gun. Fortunately, the shot misses and Ekwefi is not injured by it. These actions all took place and cause Okonkwo's excile and leads to his downfall. "What you have done will not please the Earth. It is the kind of action for which the Goddess wipes out whole families". (p.58) This presents strong meaning to Okonkwo, saying and letting him develop the concept that the bad things de does (ie. actions), will determine his life. These actions contribute to his excile, but are mainly cause by his fear of being weak.

Okonkwo's actions are all caused by his fear of being weak which results in his downfall. Okonkwo has an overly strong fear of failure, and turning out to be like his Unoka his father. Okonkwo despises his father to be lazy, poor, debt-ridden and not a person he wonts to turn out to be. Okonkwo's fears lead to his actions and show s that he is really weak. "… Dazed with fear, Okonkwo drew his matchet and cut him down. He was afaired of being thought weak". (p.54) This controlled and possessed Okonkwo's due to the immediate aftermath of the killing seen. Okonkwo devastation takes the form of a great emptiness and it dazes him. Okonkwo's actions all lead and are caused by his fear, which leads to his fate and his excile.

Okonkwo's personality would always cause actions that are erroneous and consequence in his fate. Okonkwo is exciled from the Ibo tribe, and one of his goals was to be wealthy and have a lot of yams. The fear of failure that drives Okonkwo is really a fear of appearing to be what he calls 'womanish'. This resolves in Okonkwo being inflexible with results in him be something of an outsider, which contributes to his fate. Fate has a meaning for everyone and for Okonkwo fate is determined by his good and evil actions and fears. "… living for the day, in eating 'what one had in one's lifetime' ". (p.4) This shows that Okonkwo's fate occurs from the actions he exhibits and fears that he has. Therefore it was Okonkwo's fate that conducted his excile and lead to him committing suicide out of despair for the future of the Ibo tribe.

A Midsummer Nights Dream The story A Midsummer Nights Dream tells about a group of characters that fall in love with each other. However, the whole play is all a dream. The dream also contains dreams within dreams. For example, Hermia had a dream where she fell in love with an ass, and at the end of the play Puck tells everyone that the whole deal was a dream, and that none of this really happened in real life. The title describes the story for it must have taken place in the midsummer type season and was a dream. The play at the wedding is like a play within a play, for A Midsummer Nights Dream is a play itself. William Shakespeare was a great English playwright, dramatist and poet who lived during the late sixteenth and early seventeenth centuries. Shakespeare is considered to be the greatest playwright of all time. No other writers plays have been produced so many times or read so widely in so many countries as his. Shakespeares plays are usually divided into three major categories. These are comedy, tragedy, and history. A Midsummer Nights Dream had 5 subplots. These included the lovers, the fairies, the wedding, the workers, and interlude. These subplots are made with all the elements of the story. The interlude was the play at the end of the story, after the wedding. All the lovers at the wedding saw the play, which was performed by the workers. The fairies confused lovers and caused them to marry different people, such as Puck when he put the juice in the wrong persons eyes. Thus the wedding took place and they got married. Without the workers, there would have been no play for the wedding. Lysander, Hermia, Demetrius, and Helena are the four of the young lovers, who have a relationship with each other, but each of them doesnt love whom they must marry at first. For example, Demetrius was in love with Hermia, until later on he was juiced with love potion. From there he started to love Helena, which was his lover. Hermia makes a life threatening decision for her love. She was forced to marry Demetrius; otherwise she would be put to death. Instead she took Lysanders plan, which was to run away with him, and to avoid death. Lysander made the life threatening decision for Hermia, which was to run away with her. Helena loved Demetrius, and refused to leave him alone. She never refused to give up on having him as a lover, and Demetrius couldnt do a single thing about it. He didnt want to harm her, so he had lots of trouble dealing with her until he was juiced with love potion. Oberon watched over Hermia and the rest of the four lovers. He acted like a father or guardian. Titania marries Oberon and Thesues marries Hippolyta at the wedding, as well the young lovers get married. The interlude was made and run by the workers. It takes place at the end of the story, after the wedding. The lovers attend the play. Without the workers there would be no play and the wedding must have not been as exciting. Also, the fairies made the lovers love different people so they may have been happier with the ones that they loved. The fairies confused many of the people. Puck and his other fairies joined in on conversations between Oberon and Titania, and Puck played many jokes on them. He later on felt sorry for his actions and apologized to everyone about it. Puck puts the love potion into the wrong persons eyes, which caused Demetrius to marry the right person. He was originally in love with Hermia. The fairies changed many things around. So the fairies effected the lovers, which in the wedding people married the unexpected. The workers helped put together the play at the wedding. They also stared as the characters in it and the play was what made this whole story a play within a play. At the end the lovers make fun of the play, which at the beginning they thought it would be good. In conclusion, A Midsummer Nights Dream was a play that was a dream. In this play there were plays within plays and dreams within dreams, so the whole story never did happen in real life to the person who was dreaming about this. Although it wasnt necessary for Puck to mention that this whole play was a dream itself, it adds to the effect to even out having this plays within plays. All elements and subplots of this story are perfectly fit together. It is a great story of romance and comedy, and if I had a chance to see this play I would go see it. -To all the people who slack like me, and do everything at the last minute. Anonymous

Determination of the Resistivity of Constantan Wire

To calculate the resistivity of constantan wire, or any other type of wire, the resistance has to be calculated, as well as the cross sectional area and also the length.

Cheap essay writing services offer help on Determination of the Resistivity of Constantan Wire

Resistivity of constantan wire can be determined by using the equation

= = RA/L

= = resistivity

R = resistance of wire in Ohms (Ω)

Resistance is calculated by using R = V/I = Voltage/Current

Voltage is measured in Volts, and Current is measured in Amperes

A = cross sectional area of the wire (metres square)

Cross sectional area can be calculated by A = <d/4

d = diameter

L = length of constantan wire (metres)

Physics Coursework

List of apparatus

• Power Pack Supply

• Variable Resistor

• Ammeter (0 1 Amperes)

• Voltmeter (0 6 Volts)

• Constantan Wire

• 1m Ruler

• Michrometer

• Wire Cutters

Method

The circuit was set up as shown in the diagram. The length of the wire was measured by using a meter ruler. The lengths that I chose were 1m, 0.8m, 0.6m and 0.4m. The lengths were measured from one terminal to the other. When the power pack was switched on, I recorded the voltage and then I recorded the current and the reading were recorded on the results table. The experiment was then repeated 6 more times with the same length of wire, but using different voltages. This was then repeated using different lengths of constantan wire. I measured the diameter of the constantan wire with a michrometer screw-gauge, I measured the diameter at different positions along wire, the diameter was then recorded. I then calculated the average diameter from the measurements. After every reading that was taken, the power pack was switched off because if it was left on, then the circuit would overheat. I kept the voltages fairly low so that it would not heat the wire too much, and that would affect the rest of my results, and therefore affect the resistivity of the constantan wire. I kept the diameter of the wire constant by using the same piece of constantan wire so that the diameter would not change.

When using analogue apparatus, such as a full-scale deflection voltmeter or ammeter, you have to be careful of the parallax error. The parallax error is when if you look at the reading at different angles, then the reading would look different because you are not looking down at it so that your eyes are directly above it.Resistivity of Constantan Wire

Gradient of the graph = dy/dx

Gradient of the graph = =

= = RA/L

= = 5.110^-7 .0810^-7

0.6

= .0410^-7

0.6

= = 5.0610^-7

Using the graph to calculate the average resistivity is more accurate than calculating the average resistivity using all the calculations because by drawing a line of best fit, increases the accuracy because it should cancel out the anomalous results.

From my results table and graph I can see that my results that I collected are very reliable. I know this because from the graph, it can be seen that the points plotted all near enough lie along the line of best fit. Although you may think that there is one anomalous result at 0.8m, it is only about 0.110^-7 away from being not anomalous.

From the graph, it can be seen that as the length increases, the resistance increase, therefore RA increases.

In this experiment, the errors that could have occurred were -

• The length of the wire was not very accurate, as I could have measured the wire off a few millimeters, which could have affected the whole experiment.

• The power pack might have not been turned off when I was changing the length of the constantan wire, so the heat would build up, leading to more resistance on the next reading that I was going to do.

If I was going to make improvements to the experiment, I would have tried to make the constantan wire length as accurate as can be.

To also improve on my results I would use a digital voltmeter instead of an analogue voltmeter. I would do this because a digital voltmeter is a lot more accurate than an analogue one because if the needle in the analogue voltmeter is bent then the readings will be false whereas a digital voltmeter does not rely on a needle.

I could have repeated the whole experiment again, and if the results were the same then the experiment that I carried out was accurate. Please note that this sample paper on Determination of the Resistivity of Constantan Wire is for your review only. Happiness is something that can be achieved by anyone no matter what circumstances they find themselves in. The person is always in the prime circumstance to be truly happy and experience what Cskszentmihalyi, the author of the book, Flow, The Psychology of Optimal Experience, refers to as the "optimal experience." While the process is not difficult, it does involve dedication, desire, and a striving to be happy, no matter what. Flow is an optimal experience that is characterized by a sense of playfulness, a feeling of being in control, concentration and highly focused attention, mental enjoyment of the activity for its own sake, a distorted sense of time, and a match between the challenge at hand and ones skills

The author does not attempt to outline a step-by-step method for being happy, but rather concentrates on enlightening the reader to methods of improving their outlook and motivation. He directs their thoughts to their inner selves and to the knowledge of finding within themselves the ability to truly accomplish an amazing feat, that of finding and being in flow. He refers to flow as order in consciousness. Flow can be generally defined as the ability to be at one with one's self, with one's thoughts, with one's actions, and with one's circumstances. Although there is no real order to flow, there is a path that once take to get there and that includes six separate steps. The first step is to make it a game, look at your task as a game, and establish rules, objectives, challenges to be overcome, and rewards. Next one should provide them with a powerful goal. As you play the game, remind yourself frequently of the overriding spiritual, social, or intellectual purpose that drive your efforts. Then simply focus, release your mind from all distractions, from within or without, focus your entire attention on the game. Then, let go dont strive or strain to achieve your objective, just enjoy the process of work. Next, you will feel ecstasy. This is the natural result of the preceding four steps; it will hit you out of nowhere and possibly take you by surprise. Finally, your ecstatic state opens vast reservoirs of resourcefulness, creativity, and energy. Your productivity and quality of work will shoot through the roof.

Some sources of flow are "making music, rock climbing, dancing, sailing, chess, and so forth (Cskszentmihalyi 7)." These activities are flow activities because they allow the person involved to learn a certain skill, set up some goals that they plan to achieve, they provide a certain feedback that is necessary, and they make control a necessary part of the activity. These activities also take the participant out of the reality of everyday life and separate them from the mortals for the time that are performing the activity. Another example of flow activities is games and there are four types of games that one can compete in. The first is agnostic games, where your skills are pinned up against the skills of another. Second are aleatory games, which give the person the illusion of controlling the inscrutable future. Agon includes agnostic and contains games that include competition and ilnx is the name of games that involve chance such as gambling (Cskszentmihalyi 7-7
