A person could make a dramatic change of character when they go from a heart of good to a heart of evil. Macbeth is motivated to kill Duncan by Lady Macbeth, but Macbeth is then motivated by fate, and finally motivated by impulse to carry out his next succession of crimes. Macbeth had a hand, or was involved in three murders in the story. The first murder was of King Duncan at the beginning of the story with the aid and instructions of Lady Macbeth. The second murder was of Macbeth's best friend Banquo, which Macbeth used the service of three murders to accomplish. It was fate for Macbeth to eliminate Banquo because Banquo was to be the father of kings while Macbeth would not. Finally, the third murder was of Macduff's wife and children. One murderer does the job this time and Macbeth decides from this murder on to act on impulse and not think or feel remorse for any action he does from there on. All these murders indicate that Macbeth doesn't know how to make things right after he has done something wrong, so he does the only thing he thinks is right, and that is to be more violent with each act he commits.

When Macbeth is first introduced, the first impression that we have of him is that he was an incredible and worthy fighter and the King speaks very highly of him. An example of this is O valiant cousin, worthy gentleman! The phrase shows that Duncan is very proud of Macbeth, his soldier, and his cousin. In the witches prophecies, Macbeth was told he would be Thane of Glamis, Thane of Cawdor and then eventually become King. He was already Thane of Glamis and he becomes Thane of Cawdor shortly after the execution of the previous Thane, but one prophecy sticks in his mind. He is to become King. Macbeth had the thoughts of becoming King but there was no way he would ever think of murdering his King. He had neither the heart nor determination to do such a violent act. He expresses his discomfort with this in a soliloquy. That tears shall down the wind. I have no spur to prick the sides of my intent, but only vaulting ambition, which o'erleaps itself, and falls on the other. Macbeth mentions he has no motive to do the deed. However, his wife and closet companion Lady Macbeth, seemed very interested in having her husband become king. She made it known to Macbeth that the only way he would become king is to murder Duncan. Macbeth talks about how he does not want to murder his King but Lady Macbeth starts to taunt Macbeth and accuse him of being a coward and not loving her. She finally mentions that murdering the king would be a noble achievement and not a savage crime. Lady Macbeth tells Macbeth the perfect plan of making the guards drunk and using them to cover up Macbeth's dirty work. With Lady Macbeth's support and instructions, Macbeth carries out his first murder.

With Duncan's death, and Malcolm leaving for England, the throne was now empty for Macbeth. Even though Macbeth has become king, he is not as happy or content, as he would like to be. He has become more fearful of the people around him and he remembers the witches prophecy to Banquo. The prophecy that he is not to be king but he will be the father of kings. Macbeth starts to think that Banquo has become suspicious of all the events leading up to Macbeth's crowning. He decides that Banquo has to be put out of the picture. He feels the crown has brought him nothing so far in the quote Upon my head they plac'd a fruitless crown, and put a barren sceptre in my gripe. Thence to be wrench'd with an unlineal hand. Macbeth decides that it is fate for him to kill Banquo for Macbeth will not have any sons of his own to become kings. Macbeth is so determined to kill Banquo that he does not tell Lady Macbeth of his plan until long after the deed is done. The murderers kill Banquo, and fate according to Macbeth has shown him the way.

Macbeth has now successfully carried out two murders but the other lords have now begun to figure out that Macbeth was responsible for the murders of Duncan and Banquo. At this point, Macbeth has become so filled with evil thoughts that he realizes that the only way he can cover up his evil intentions is to be more evil in heart and in mind and not look back anymore at what he has done in the past. Strange things I have in head, that will to hand, which must be acted, ere they may be scann'd. In that quote, Macbeth decides that he must act on impulse and not think or feel remorse anymore. His first act he wishes to commit is to murder Macduff 's wife, and children. He sends a murderer out to accomplish the task and the deed is done. Little does Macbeth know that his latest plan will also lead to his eventual downfall, but now Macbeth has completely lost his mind and has made the complete change from good to evil.

There arent many people who can be called the best in America. Michael Jordan, who has won numerous championships, can be considered the best in the game of

basketball. Tiger woods is said to be the best golfer ever. George Washington is said to be one of the best presidents in America history. Among these great figures on America are sometime forgotten American authors. Mark Twain is one of the best authors to ever walk on American soil. He wrote numerous books and short essays that are now considered a work of art. His life and his writings were also extremely interesting. Mark Twain had hard times as well as good times, like all of us in this world. Unfortunately, there was mors bad than good for Twain. Despite the pain he endured, Twain contributed to American Literature through his famous writing that are still being read today.

In order to find out how a man could write some of the greatest books in history, we must start at the beginning. Mark Twain was not always known as Mark. He was born asSamuel Langhorn Clemens on November 0,185 in the small town of Florida, Missouri. He was the sixth son of John MArshall and Jane Lampton Clemens. He had been a sickly child- he said he lived mainly on allopathic medicine during the first seven years of his life (De Koster 16). A few years later, his family moved to Hannibal, Missouri. At the age of nine, Samuel got to play outside because he was no longer sick and had completely recovered. He later wrote about these childhood experiences in The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn and The Adventures of Tom Sawyer. At age twelve, Samuel had to deal with the tragic death of his father. This completely dirupted his life. Soon after ha had to get out of school and start working so he could support himself and his family. Samuel went looking for a job. He took a job as a printers apprentice hoping to someday help his brother, Orion, in his newspaper.

Later in his life, he decided to become a river pilots apprentice. This is where he took the name Mark Twain. Mark Twain means that a boat can leave port and it is safe to go on ots voyage. Since the pilots occupation wasnt supplying the right amount of fun and work after the civil war, he moved to a different location around the United States working for several, newspaper.

Susy past away from meningitis and Jean from an epileptic seizure and drowned in her bath. The last of his children, Clara, lived to be eighty- eight years old. Unfortunately, she only had one daughter who died without having any child of her own. Twain has no living descendents.

Twain attended school until the age of twelve and learned the necessary to reaed and to write. It seemed that he carried all his information through all his desire to write. Imagine if he would have still gone to college? How would have been the difference?

There was only a few influential people Twain mentions in his writings. One of the two men were Joseph Goodman, the paper founder, and Dan Quille, a star writer. Twain never got to write a book about the things that influenced him, if he had he would have surely written about the bible (De Koster 16)

One of Mark Twains very first published sketches was A Gallent Fireman a one page paragraph anecdote in January 16,1851. This was about a young man who became a hero by distinguishing a fire in a grocery store. He was very proud of this because it was his first and proud that people actually liked it. This is what made him want to write more. Next, he would write his most famous novel called The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn. He had many works done but one sad acount would be whn he wrote about the death of his daughter Susy. He wrote about the way he and his wife couldnt be there because they were in Europe when she died. He had many published books, novels, and essays that are still being read to this day.

Mark Twain achieved many goals. He wrote what he thought and what he experienced. Twain got to publish mostly all of them. His first proudly said award was recieved in 1888 for Honorary M.A, Yale Universtiy and another in 101 for Litt. D., Yale University and later recieved more and more (Samuel Langhorne Clemens 185-110 )

Mark Twain was a well known man during his days. He had ups and downs in his life, but one way he would get rid of the pain he suffered while growing up would be to write. In the timeless novel, Great Expectations by Charles Dickens, Pip, the protagonist, and his brother-in-law, Joe Gargery, have a relationship like no other. This developing kinship proves itself to be one of mutual friends in the commencement, but as the novel prolongs, Pip thinks of himself as superior to Joe and becomes condescending towards him. In the conclusion of the novel, one may come to understand that the relationship between Joe and Pip is easily compared to a circle. By the end of the novel Pip and Joe's relationship has clearly made a 60° rotation and Pip and Joe are acquaintances once again.

The novel begins with Pip and Joe as equals. Pip even admired Joe. He exemplifies his admiration for Joe after he and Joe had shared an emotional night together. Joe had explained to Pip about his alcoholic father and how he felt about Mrs. Joe Gargery, Pip's sadistic sister. He also tells Pip about how it was he that induced Mrs. Joe to bring Pip into their household after Pip's parents had died. Pip reflects on this moment and exclaims, "Young as I was, I believe I dated a new admiration of Joe from that night. We were equals afterwards, as we had been before; but, afterwards at quiet times when I sat looking at Joe and thinking about him, I had a new sensation of feeling conscious that I was looking up to Joe in my heart. (Ch.7 Pg. )" At that particular moment, Joe's status as a blacksmith did not matter to Pip. Pip admired Joe for the benevolent person that he was. Pip and Joe's relationship was like one of any two best friends. They were equals, but there was always that admiration for the other who possessed that special quality. Pip sparked the first change in his relationship with Joe steadily as he became more and more haughty. At one point in the romance, after Pip had come into "great fortune", Pip was so ashamed of Joe, that he didn't even want to walk with him on the morning of his departure, where he was to go to London and become a gentlemen. Pip recollects, "…that this purpose originated in my sense of the contrast there would be between me and Joe, if we went to the coach together. (Ch.1 Pg. )" Pip didn't want anybody to see that he had come from a "common" condition. Moving onto London, Pip did not want to be associated with a blacksmith and he thought that there was a significant difference between him and Joe.

Opening the second half of the novel, Pip continues his condescension towards Joe. Upon his sister's death, Pip acts remorseful towards Joe, who has just lost his wife. To Joe's face, Pip shows compassion and promises that he will visit Joe often, all-the-while, knowing that he will not be back . "…I should not come back…(Ch.5 Pg. )", Pip confessed to himself as he left his hometown. One can conclude that at this time Pip still thinks that he is better than Joe and does not belong in the same small town as he. Pip obviously has come to believe that one's surroundings is a definition of one's true self. He believes that a gentlemen, like himself, and a blacksmith, like Joe, do not belong together and that he is a better man that Joe is or can ever be. The relationship between Joe and Pip is like the relationship between Donna and Marie, two sisters. Donna, who is four years older than Marie is much like Pip in the sense that she thinks she is better than Marie and doesn't like to hang out with her little sister. Marie, in comparison to Joe, still loves her older sister regardless. Pip lightens his relationship with Joe, after being awfully ill. Joe takes care of Pip during this horrid period and when Pip comes to his senses he is finally thankful for Joe's fellowship. Pip repeatedly compares himself at that moment to the way he was when he was a child. "…I was like a child in his hands…(Ch.57 Pg. )", Pip thinks back on a moment when Joe was tending to him. When Pip was a child him and Joe were best friends and were equally loyal to each other. The comparison that Pip continuously makes between their relationship years ago to that moment represent that the circle of friendship between the two was now completed.

The developing friendship between Joe and Pip, proved itself to be very original. The two went through many things together and in the end they made it. Joe and Pip were the best of friends in the beginning of the novel, and though Pip's change in attitude pulled them apart throughout the story, they were friends in the end of the novel.

BOOK REVIEW

Thomas Cayhill's The Gift Of the Jews

Chapter 1

The book begins by commenting on the written word, which was carved in Sumer of Uruk, the world's first civilization and perhaps earliest city. It is stated that this writing "invention" came out of necessity to be able to keep and reference accounts and transactions. Thus, written symbols took the place of human memory. When reading further into this chapter and getting some insight into the Sumerian people, I can now somewhat understand their desire to improve recording methods and account summaries. Cayhill praises the Sumerians by describing their relatively "sophisticated" lifestyle. They were advanced in the areas of farming, mathematics, husbandry, and medicine, as well as possessing many other skills and talents. Overall, the Sumerians are described as practical and down-to-earth businesspeople.

This chapter brings up an interesting and ironical point that although the Sumerians, "the black-headed people" invented writing, the instrument that makes history possible, they themselves had no sense of history. Partly because of this, Sumerian stories and tales miss the sense of development that has become the norm in all modern works. Cayhill relates their story-telling techniques to a young child repeating a joke they heard, yet the punch-line is of no importance to them and usually there isn't one. Aside from their lousy literary structure, Cayhill says that we today enjoy these stories because we can associate some of our emotions with theirs, and therefore feel closer to them.

A solid portion of the chapter is dedicated to summarizing a Sumerian work that has perhaps impacted our culture more than any of their other literatures. The story is called the Epic of Gilgamesh, a legend of a hero called Gilgamesh, the king of Uruk during the third millennium B.C. This story begins with a piece of poetry that describes and glamorizes the city of Uruk. The story includes themes of loneliness, friendship, love, teamwork, lust, and other important topics that surround our culture today. Towards the end, Gilgamesh loses his dear friend Enkidu and, after seven days of grieving, he sets out to obtain the secret of immortality. The epic concludes when Gilgamesh finally finds the only mortal man who has been granted immortality (Ut-napishtim, who is the model for the biblical Noah) who offers him some advice that Cayhill believes to be the main lesson of this work. In short, Gilgamesh is told that no matter how hard he tries, he will not be able to avoid or escape death. He is advised by the alewife to enjoy life while he is still alive, to appreciate the things he has and those around him.

The chapter concludes with Cayhill describing similarities and differences between Sumerian qualities and those of our society today. He also says that portions of the Hebrew Bible have evolved from Sumerian times, emphasizing the tail of the primordial flood and the ark that preserved life.

Chapter

Chapter two begins by mentioning a topic that was discussed briefly during one of our lectures, which involves the idea that so many of the major aspects of our world move in a circular fashion. Namely, primitive humans looked to heaven and saw what Cayhill calls the "wheel of life," which revolved around the "hub of death." Cayhill mentions that a work was recently found in Australia that is perhaps the earliest human art, about 75,000 years old. This piece consists of a series of circles which in Cayhill's mind, acknowledges the patter of the "ever-turning wheel." Animals are mentioned which were thought to be earth animals manifested by the moon, or, "moon-creatures." These include a snake, spider, bull, oyster with its pearl, snail, and a bear. Cayhill explains that however illogical it may seem to us, these theories produced by primitive man are the same as our attempts to fine some truth out there.

Cayhill then goes into the "begettings" of Terah, who are made up by Avram (Abraham), Nahor and Haran. He then goes into the journey of Terah, Avram, Lot and Sarai. They left from Ur of the Chaldeans, and set out for Canaan. However, they settled in the land of Harran, where Terah died. The question is brought up as to whether or not these citizens of Ur planned to settle in Harran instead of Canaan. The justification for such an argument lies in the fact that Terah and his family were well established int eh land of Ur. Why would they want to leave that for Canaan, a land where the people ate their meat raw and did not know how to bury their dead. Regardless of the intent, Cayhill moves on to include the excerpt of a voice coming to Avram, which probably took place in Harran. After being blessed and promised a great nation, Avram, along with Sarai and Lot, set out for Canaan. Cayhill brings up a point that no matter how far away they travel from their original home, their Sumerian heritage went with. Cayhill then relates this to an insight that everyone can take away from this. Avram, Sarai and Lot "could no more escape this mind-set of their culture any more than we can escape ours. The lesson, in my eyes, is that things do not change overnight. One cannot leave a place and expect to rid himself/herself of all that he wants to leave behind. This perspective of the Sumerian includes, as mentioned earlier, the emphasis on and importance of business. Another viewpoint, stated well by Ut-napishtim and other Sumerian proverbs, revolves around the selfishness and impurity of man. "Man behaves badly," and "Never has a sinless child been born."

After the death of Terah, the remaining three set out on their journey. Avram is described as a childless man who is sent by his god to make his "great nation," although he does not know where he's headed. Cayhill then depicts him as the chosen leader who must emerge from the people, who know that everything ends in death, and teach them to dream of something new in the future. It is mentioned that virtually every population of peoples would have scorned Avram's attempts and shook their heads in disbelief.

Chapter

In the beginning of chapter three, Cahill does his best to encapsulate the power of God. All dialogue between God and human is initiated by God. "This God" is not the main character of a myth, nor is he a typical "ancient divinity" or "achetypal gesturer." Rather, he is an actual personality who has, by changing the course of life as humans know it, made life and everything that surrounds it, unpredictable.

Programming procedures allow programming practices to become standardized. This enables a programmer to quickly come up to speed when troubleshooting and making modifications to an existing application. Programming guidelines should contain scheduling requirements, a quality checklist, and some general design guidelines. The components included in a programming procedure not only enable a programming team to build a more robust application but also save costly maintenance time when the application crashes or has enhancements that need to be incorporated.

. Code Standards

Code standards are a critical part of programming, especially when a program is being developed by a team. A variable naming conventions allows variables to be named in a format that is consistent and definitive. The Hungarian variable naming convention consists of small lower-case prefixes added on to a variable name with the first letter of words capitalized.

A naming convention must also be adhered to for controls. By using Hungarian Notation to name controls, a programmer has the ability to standardize the structure, coding style and logic of an application. Below is a sample of the Hungarian Notion used for naming controls.

Cheap writing services for Programming procedures papers

Indentation guidelines are another important part of code standards. A programmer should use blank lines and Tabs for formatting to enhance readability. Correct indentation for all control structures should be adhered to.

Internal Documentation Requirements are yet another component of code standards. Pseudo code and a testing checklist should be submitted with any application. This will help other programmer quickly come up to speed and will ensure that the testing phase of application development is thorough and successful.

. Scheduling Requirements

In order to make our group deadline, each individual must be able to post their parts to the newsgroup two days before the actual deadline. Reason being is so each team members can review the product and revise anything that needs revising. A chosen person can merge all the documents together to make it one seamless product. Each individual who turns in their part must be well documented and must have their resources documented as well. If a team member needs help, then s/he should not be afraid to ask for help. The one thing that each member needs to remember is to turn in their work on time. You can't expect your team member to pick up your own part. If you can't do it, let your team member know and ask for help.

4. QC Checklist

Having others QC the application can provide a number of quality checks. While it may not seem too important to the programmer to do this in a classroom environment, making a program that a total stranger has to read and understand is critical in the real world. First, when choosing a name for a subroutine or function be descriptive. A person ought to be able to tell by the name what type of processing will take place. A second area of concern is variable naming. Do the variable names reflect the data types they are? For example, is int prefixing all integer variables. We will also evaluate the names of variables using the Microsoft naming standards and ease of use of the application. Finally, the program will be checked for inline documentation of each routine or function. What is being called? Who calls it? Who does it call? Is there anything passed to it that should have a certain range of values? By adhering to some simple rules, it will make the project easier to understand and comment on it.

5. Design Guidelines/Requirements

One of the many documentation that will be required are ANY sources that was used for the design. Other design documentation that will be required is the original design for the final project. Documentation is essential so that when a person wants to rebuild this product, a person can just take a look at the original design and build it from scratch. Another thing you want to document is any revision that was made after the original product was designed. A design is essential because it organizes the thoughts of the group and from there a flow chart could be made. It is easier to create a product from something that is already organized. Meaning that everything that you want a product to do is laid out for a team to work on and create this product. It makes coding so much easier.

6. Conclusion

The quality control process is an important one in programming. It provides a guideline to create a standardized set of code for applications and programs. This enables others to view and understand what the program is trying to accomplish in the end. Having the Learning Team go through the quality control process will take it to a new appreciation for programming and group projects. It will get the whole group involved in lending a hand to make each weekly project and enjoyable learning experience. All of this will keep the team moving towards its goal of gaining a better understanding of what it takes to create a quality program. Please note that this sample paper on Programming procedures is for your review only. In order to eliminate any of the plagiarism issues, it is highly recommended that you do not use it for you own writing purposes. In case you experience difficulties with writing a well structured and accurately composed paper on Programming procedures, we are here to assist you. ".... In chronicling Gatsby's tragic pursuit of his dream. Fitzgerald recreates the universal conflict between illusion and reality."

Do you agree?

On the surface this novel comments on the careless gaiety and moral decadence of the period. It contains innumerable references to the contemporary scene. The wild extravagance of Gatsby's parties, the shallowness and aimlessness of the guests and the hint of Gatsby's involvement in crime all identify the period of the American Dream. Despite this, below the sheer veil there lies the universal conflict between illusion and reality. Fitzgerald tells us of Gatsby's pursuit of his dream; its initiation, its failure, all that is relevant in contrasting the two totally different worlds, but showing to all how they are united into a state of complete synchronicity.

A perfect state of illusionment is set up in this novel from the beginning. The aura of mystery surrounding Gatsby is a distinct way of masking the reality that deserves the recognition of being acknowledged. The true realisation of who Gatsby is as a character is only revealed towards the end of the novel when we learn he is a symbolic measurement of 'poor boy makes good' creed that American society was so proud of. The controversial idea that was embedded in the minds of all present throughout the period of The American Dream was that a complete state of happiness could be achieved through the successive aspect of acquired social prestige and materialistic possessions. This only proved to be a facade, an illusionment, a dream that was impossible to be realised. Gatsby was part of this illusion, he had the wealth and the power, but despite this he was still unable to live a life in a state of total completeness. Reality had to be recognised, the failure of the American Dream, the failure of Gatsby's dream was unavoidable. Not only because the reality of life cannot compare to idealistic dreams or peoples illusionments, but also because ideals, people's illusions, are usually far to perfect to be parralled into reality.

School papers on Great Gatsby

The emptiness of the American Dream and the aspects of self-deception have a predominant awareness in Gatsby himself. Gatsby's entire life, the very motivation that drove him was based on a fantasy - a dream that could never come true, an illusion. Gatsby was born Jay Gatz, the son of poor parents who he resented and rejected. This was the reality that Gatsby could never really acknowledge, so he propelled himself into an illusionary state and recreated himself as a person. His dream of a new and better James Gatz - Jay Gatsby - was conceptualised at an early age and came into a being as a 17 year old, when he met Dan Cody. He helped build the foundations for Gatsby's goals, his dreams and desires, he was created into the character of his dreams. He spent his life living as a false person, and illusionary character. The tragedy was that he was fooling himself. He was a false character, a make believe person, the concept of a 17 year olds dream. He could not grow or learn as an adult because he was lying to himself, never accepting reality. His life was an illusion, his dream was an illusion, and it could never be achieved because the ideals could never be parallel into reality. This tragic pursuit of Gatsby's dreams, expresses the distinct blur that is present in peoples mind between illusion and reality. The struggle and the fight for realisation of the two totally different but complexly intertwined worlds is destined an eternal process. Through this chronilisation Fitzgerald evidently displays the universal conflict between illusion and reality.

Gastby strives to fulfill his dreams, and is willing to surmount any obstacles that will keep him from achieving all his desires. This including Daisy, his childhood love. Abstract

This case study takes place in a community hospital on a rainy Monday morning. The new executive assistant to the CEO, Chris Smith, has just started his job and is getting a brief synopsis of issues and problems that he has been asked to analyze and propose solutions to. After gathering all the information possible, looking at discrepancies, and talking with employees of the hospital, Chris determines that the problem is the general nature of the mission statement, and the desire of all stakeholders to keep the hospital solvent in their own way. The proposals needed to solve any problems must be ready in one week.

Case Study Faith Community Hospital

Chris Smith, as the executive assistant to the CEO at Faith Community Hospital, is given the charge to come up with a report for the first ever held staff meeting that will propose solutions to the negative publicity and the hospital funds that, according to the hospital accounting department, are going in the red. Chris found that the best way to solve problems is to identify them specifically. He went on a fact finding information search, checked out discrepancies, and also had conversations with the staff at the hospital. The main problem he discovered was the nature of the mission statement and a lack in staff training. His proposal included a re-write of the mission statement, new guidelines for all staff and specific, regular, training to inform all involved of the changes.

Our reading and classroom discussions have taught that getting all of the information possible is critical to identifying a problem. The CEO gave Chris some general ideas about what kinds of issues where coming up at the hospital, but nothing specific. When the information is all put together, mapped out so that it is all in front of you, the picture becomes a little clearer. Asking questions also helped Chris in determining the problem. Why is the most often asked question. "Why did the DNR directive get administered differently?". "Why do doctors treat some patients and not others just because of insurance issues?".

Another action that Chris took was to do some comparing. In the past the costs were less per patient, but was the quality going down, or were there other reasons for the increase? Chris had to look at the information the accounting department gave them regarding fixed costs and compare them to the per patient number. He also used plans and forecasts to decide what the current trend would do to the hospital, which our classroom text explains is helpful in pinpointing a problem and finding solutions.

The problem that Chris identified was the broad, general nature of the mission statement, multiple interpretations of it, and a lack of training for the entire staff at the hospital. The mission statement is a general, warm-fuzzy, religious statement and is being interpreted in many ways. The hospital is still a business and must still operate as such. The problem with the mission statement is because it so broad and open, there are many different interpretations of it. The second problem that Chris identified is the lack of training for staff members. The CEO admitted that the meeting where he would present his proposals would be the first of its kind during his administration. None of the staff seemed to be on the same page because they never had communication and training that helped them understand what the mission statement and their specific responsibilities entailed.

To solve the problem of the mission statement, Chris proposed re-writing the missions statement so that the focus is on the health and well being of the people in the community and the service and commitment to excellence in the medical industry. This task would require the assistance of the Board of Directors, or a representative of that board to participate in some brainstorming sessions so that the statement would still reflect the values of the community and the founders of the hospital.

To solve the problem of many interpretations of the mission statement, Chris proposed regular staff meetings and training sessions. The problem of individual interpretation comes from a lack of information. The specific meaning of the mission statement and every procedure in the hospital should be disseminated to every member of the staff - doctors, nurses and aides alike. This information should also shared with the community so they would be aware of the hospitals procedures as well as their caring staff and solid religious values.

The changes Chris proposed were monumental but necessary if the hospital were to stay afloat. They had to be well planned out and implemented carefully and slowly. The solutions when fully in place would keep the staff members employed and the community happy.

Cigarette smoking is the most significant cause of lung cancer and also the leading cause of death in both men and women. Cigarette smoking is accountable for at least one-third of deaths of cancer annually in the United States. Cigarette smoking is an addiction that can be prevented. However, once a person inhales a cigarette it becomes an addiction that can cause lung cancer, heart disease, and other health effects which I think people should be aware of.

Smoking involves inhaling and absorbing nicotine into the bloodstream and traveling it to the brain which causes an addictive effect. Every time the smoker's serum nicotine level falls below the minimum limit, he/she experiences drug withdrawal which makes him/her to become tense, anxious, and irritable. This feeling of dependency on nicotine makes the smoker to continue to smoke, therefore those who continue to smoke will continue to be in a constant battle of maintaining their serum nicotine level. Nevertheless it is best to never start smoking because once a puff is inhaled, you will become addicted to nicotine and continue to crave for it.

People commonly start smoking when they were a teenager. Some teenagers smoke because they want to be rebellious, however, the most common reason is peer pressure. Teenagers start smoking because they think it will give them a better image like being cooler, more attractive, or more popular. However, some people say they smoke because they are unhappy, unsatisfied, nervous, bored, anxious, lonely, tired or just

Nicotine has both stimulant and depressant effects on the central nervous system. It can cause many symptoms such as; alertness or relaxation, changes in mood and behavior, diarrhea, increased pulse and blood pressure, nausea and vomiting, and tremors. There are also risks of experiencing withdrawal symptoms, such as; stress, anxiety, depression, or boredom. Smoking causes many symptoms and it can also cause serious damage to one's health. Smoking is responsible for most cancers of the larynx, oral cavity, esophagus, and lung cancer. In addition, it is highly associated with the development of. bladder, kidney, pancreatic, and cervical cancers.

Tobacco use can also cause chronic bronchitis, coronary artery disease and other forms of heart disease, such as; emphysema and gastro esophageal reflux disease. Tobacco also is a factor in causing decreased life expectancy, gray hair and baldness, high blood pressure, infertility in men and women, increased risk for bone fractures, premature wrinkles and a weakened immune system. Most experience heart attacks, strokes, or other circulatory conditions. Nevertheless, cigarette smoking is a serious addiction that causes serious health problems that people should be aware of.

puff is inhaled, the nicotine is absorbed into the body causing an addictive effect. I believe that people should start thinking of the effects that nicotine can do to their lives. I truly do not think that smoking is worth risking a person's life. I know that there are serious consequences of smoking, which is why I am not a smoker. I have thought about taking a puff to see why people like to smoke but I always thought about the risks which is why I never even tried it at all. I know that nicotine is an addictive chemical that can cause cancer and other serious damage to the body. I experienced and saw what nicotine can do. My uncle had past away a couple of months ago from lung cancer which was caused by his dependency on smoking. I would think about the consequences before I act upon doing something and there are many serious consequences of smoking. Once you inhale a cigarette, it becomes an addiction and in the long run will cause damage to the health. So, think before you act and know the consequences that it can do to you and the ones that you love.

Word Count: 905 The American Oligarchy America: The Pretense of Democracy The Aristotelian view of democracy showed democracy as a supreme state of being, promoting equality more than anything. It allowed every person to have as much say in a government as any other person, and yet still allowed individuality to reign. To follow this path of "true" democracy is to follow the path to a perfect country. Yet America, which prides itself on being a truly democratic nation, is filled with corruption and extortion, nothing like the Utopia Aristotle portrayed. America is in the hands of a select few. A tiny fraction of the population holds any real political power, while the rest simply sit idly by. This goes against the very principle of democracy. Aristotle said of this Any one man [of the many] may be inferior [to a man of excellence], but the city-state is made up of many men. Just as a meal done by many is better than a single and simple one, for this reason a mass (ochlos) can judge many things better than any one man. In addition, that which is many is less likely to be corrupted. So, although an individual's judgment can be corrupted when he is overcome by anger or some other emotion, it is difficult for all to become angry and make erroneous judgments simultaneously. If all the men are good men and good citizens, they are less corruptible than one man. However, seldom is this the case with American politics. There are far fewer politicians then there are low class workers or unemployed, and yet these politicians decide upon most all of the important decisions the country is faced with. The only time the rest of the people are involved is when these politicians spew out money and promises in an attempt to gain the popularity of the public whom they are so far from. Although the majority of the United States is low to middle class, the only people in high political positions are those who spend millions of dollars to get where they are. Equality is one of the largest foundations of democracy, and yet those who are not fabulously wealthy or who have not spent all their life attempting to establish themselves as a politician have no chance of becoming a successful one. According to Aristotle, "Justice as understood in democracy is equality, but this considers only part of what is just; the same is true of the notion of justice in oligarchy." The American system of democracy is anything but equal. The original Bill of Rights was very clear about having one person represent many. The very first article stated After the first enumeration required by the first article of the Constitution, there shall be one Representative for every thirty thousand, until the number shall amount to one hundred… …there shall be not less than one hundred Representatives nor less than one Representative for every forty thousand persons, until the number of Representatives shall amount to two hundred… …there shall not be less than two hundred Representatives, nor more than one Representative for every fifty thousand persons. To have one person speak for numbers exceeding thirty thousand is certainly not democratic in its original sense. It is not possible for one man to properly ensure that the differing rights of thirty thousand people are upheld. This article was not ratified, but it was proposed to be Article I of the Bill of Rights. Although America claims to have been founded on the principles of democracy, its very foundations proposed something so very undemocratic that this claim becomes preposterous. The definition of democracy is "ruled by many". Many, however, do not rule America. There is another term for this. It is oligarchy, which means, "ruled by few". America is quite definitely an oligarchy, and it shows many qualities as such. Aristotle referred to Sparta as an oligarchy because its political system was to have two offices elected by the people, as opposed to having everything run by the people. He says The Spartan common messes were intended to be a democratic institution, but they did not work out that way. Everyone is required to contribute [to the shared meals], but some of them are too poor to do so. The very poorest cannot easily share in the common messes, yet this is the ancestral defining principal of their system of government. Thus the very poor do not have a share in it. This is the perfect picture of America. The poor cannot contribute, and therefore are left out, pushed aside by the rich, who can rule. This nation is not the democracy Aristotle speaks, but rather an oligarchy very similar to Sparta. Aristotle's democracy was a democracy that endorsed equality to its fullest. Instead of forcing the thoughts of everyone through one biased individual, it allowed every person to have a voice. America is not a democracy. It tries very hard to make the people of the world think it is, but it is not. It goes against much of what Aristotle spoke of with fervor. Not everyone has an equal opportunity, nor does everyone have a voice. In fact, equality continues to diminish despite steps taken to push it further. Most of America is a simple façade that can be stripped away with minor effort. It is a mere pretense of democracy that would die out if it were to attempt to become anything more.
